POLAND – Helen Pearl McCleary of Poland died peacefully at her home Aug. 29, and is now waiting for the great resurrection of the Lord that she served so faithfully for many years.
Born in New Fielding (Egypt), New Brunswick, June 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Green and Ella M. (Scott) Green. She attended schools in Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1937.
On Oct. 13, 1937, she married Aubrey Lewis McCleary; he predeceased her on Aug. 4, 2004.
She was a member of the Advent Christian Church where she served her Lord as youth director for many years. Some of the grown “teenagers” still refer to her as “Mom” McCleary.
She was also a member of the Poland Ricker Senior Citizens. For many years, she volunteered at the Mechanic Falls’ meal site serving meals to the senior citizens in the area. She also was a volunteer for the Community Health Services.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home, with the first trip taking them to the West Coast. She enjoyed reading, journaling, knitting and especially working in her flower gardens each summer. For many years, every Friday you would smell the aroma of fresh baked bread, cookies and cakes that she made. She always will be remembered as a loving and caring Christian mom and grandmother.
Survivors include her son, Russell Eugene McCleary of Lewiston; daughters, Gloria Thiboutot and husband, Joseph, of Brunswick, and Charlotte McCleary of Poland; sisters, Marjorie Dyer of Waterville and Edith Manley of Meriden, Conn.; brothers, Earl Green of Meriden, Conn., and Guy Green of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
