ALBANY, N.Y. – Norman L. Bernard, 84, of Latham, N.Y., beloved husband for 59 years of Elvira Ventrella Bernard, died Thursday night, May 26, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

He was born in Jay, the son of the late Arthur and Irma Samson Bernard, and graduated from Livermore Falls High School in Livermore Falls. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and retired from International Paper Co. in Corinth in 1982, after 37 years of service as a personnel manager.

He was a resident of Latham, N.Y., since 1985, where he was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham, the Colonie Elks’ Lodge 2192 and the Latham Senior Citizens Bowling League.

In addition to his beloved wife, Elvira, he is also survived by his loving children, Norma Zambardino and her husband, James, of Latham, N.Y., Arthur Bernard and his wife, Thespina, of Bernardsville, N.J., and Mary Haley and her husband, Mark, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; his six cherished grandchildren, James Zambardino, Amy Zambardino, Alexander Bernard, Jennifer Bernard, Michael Haley and Daniel Haley; and several nieces and nephews.
