AUBURN – Virginia K. Pettingill, 83, of Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road, died Monday, Aug. 29, at her home.

She was born in Lewiston, Dec. 18, 1921, the daughter of Ralph and Mary King. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1940 and after raising her family, she graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1978.

She was married March 13, 1942, to Frederick C. Pettingill; he predeceased her Oct. 5, 2001. She was a schoolteacher in the Lewiston school system until her retirement.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick C. Pettingill Jr., and Bruce Pettingill; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Immediato; a brother, Earle King; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Elliott King.
