AUGUSTA – More than 130,000 Maine professionals may now renew their state licenses online.

Christine A. Bruenn, the commissioner of the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, said the effort has been two years in the making. It can accommodate license renewals with 40 different licensing authorities.

Most of regulated professions and occupations that will benefit from the new service are overseen by the Office of Licensing and Registration and the Office of Securities.

Contact information and the online application may be found at www3.informe.org/pfr/. For a list of the licenses that may be renewed online, people can visit the site and see the categories under “renewal information.”

“We are proud to be making another contribution to the state’s e-government services,” said Anne Head, director of the Office of Licensing and Registration. “Businesses and individual licensees now have the convenience of renewing licenses online around the clock, seven days a week, and from any location in the world where they have Internet access.”

In addition to convenience for applicants, online license renewals decrease processing time and help hold the line on administrative costs, officials say.

Also, if renewing by mail, applicants may not learn for days if they have omitted mandatory information or paid the wrong fee. The online application provides immediate feedback when required information is omitted, and the fees are automatically calculated for the applicants.
