RUMFORD – An Alaska man was injured Thursday morning when the sport utility vehicle he was driving was broadsided by a tractor-trailer truck at NewPage Corp. in Rumford.

R. Raven, 62, of Anchorage, Alaska, was taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital after complaining of pain in his lower extremities, according to a report by Rumford Patrolman James Bernard. He was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.

The crash happened at 8:35 a.m. on Railroad Street, which passes through the NewPage paper mill yard, connecting Routes 2 and 17 with Route 108.

Bernard said a 2005 Peterbilt tractor-trailer owned by E.J. Carrier of Jackman and operated by Jacob R. Hale, 26, of Rumford, pulled out of the mill parking lot and collided with a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo driven by Raven. The SUV is owned by Elizabeth Belanger, 85, of South Paris.

Hale was not injured, nor, reportedly, was a dog with Raven. Damage to the rig was estimated at $2,500; to the Isuzu, $6,500.
