Finally, the city of Lewiston decides to do work on Kennedy Park. Lewiston residents in the downtown area close to the park would love some changes in the play and pool areas.
My suggestions: Do away with the wading pool and things that shoot water up in the air. Also, it would be a whole lot better if the pools were open longer hours.
As for the playground area, it would be better if there were more swings and even a merry-go-round and more slides. That would help kids stay out of trouble by coming to the park for swimming and play.
The basketball court needs a lot of work. A wall is collapsing and the basketball hoops are getting bent or breaking right off the poles.
The park used to have a water fountain where the star is now, and there used to be a drinking fountain that should be brought back to life. The park also needs more benches.
The gazebo has a lot of graffiti and damage done by people who hang out in the park. A while ago, some kids tried to set the gazebo on fire, but a police officer caught them doing it and put out the fire quickly.
The city needs to fix up the park so it can be more fun, not boring like it is now.
