I am an Augusta native who moved to Monroe, La., last October. Our area was not impacted directly by the hurricane. However, people have been seeking refuge here in shelters. The shelters are full and they are struggling to feed and care for the people displaced by the hurricane. The stories of how this storm has impacted the people of this area is unbelievable. Families have had their homes and heritage virtually wiped-out. Things are moving very slowly and the relief effort seems to gaining some momentum. The company I work for has been working to help the local Red Cross chapter take care of the evacuees. It’s sad, it’s depressing and the news seems to get worse every day. To top everything, filling stations are out of gas and like the rest of the nation prices have gone up!

I encourage all your readers to contribute to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. They need money and they need it now.
