LEWISTON – Arthur “Art” J. Takasch, 85, a resident of Blue Road in Monmouth, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 4, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Lewiston, where he had been a patient for eight weeks.
He was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Perth Amboy, N.J., the son of Steven and Beatrice (Conklin) Takasch.
Art enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II as a surgical technician. After being discharged, he enlisted with the U.S. Army until 1948.
Arthur worked as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker.
He married Angelina Minucci in New Jersey in 1947. They later divorced. Arthur later married Rita Carter on Jan. 31, 1972, in Portland. She passed away in 1990.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and V.F.W.
Art played saxophone in several orchestras in New Jersey. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed collecting angels.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Thibeault and her husband, Tim, of Leeds; a son, Richard Takasch and his wife, Colleen, of New Jersey; grandchildren, Lisa Castonguay, Joshua Thibeault and Kelly Takasch; great-grandchildren, Evan Thibeault, Aiko Castonguay and Derek Brooker.
He was predeceased by a sister, Audrey Means, and two brothers, Richard and Donald Takasch.
