MEXICO – A Rumford woman was listed in fair condition Monday night, a day after her all-terrain vehicle flipped end over end near Halfmoon Pond in Mexico, police said.

Georgeanne Brewer, 46, of 24 Isthmus Road, suffered a head injury and complained of neck, shoulder and back pain, Mexico Patrolman Jeff Stoddard said.

At about 2:15 p.m. Sunday she was taken from a gravel pit near the pond.

“She was loaded onto a backboard, and put in the back of a pickup truck, which was used to get her to the landing zone,” Stoddard said, then flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. A nursing supervisor said she was in fair condition Monday night.

The crash was reported at 1:21 p.m. It happened about 2 miles into the woods on an ATV trail off the end of Poplar Hill Road.

Brewer was driving a 2001 Arctic Cat 400 four-wheel-drive four-wheeler, riding with her boyfriend, Richard Hebert, who was on another ATV, Stoddard said.

“She was coming down a slope on the trail when she had contact with some rocks, and I suspect she hit the front brakes,” he said.

The ATV flipped end over end and landed on Brewer, who was not wearing a helmet, he added.

Her injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Med-Care Ambulance, Mexico firefighters, and Dixfield Sgt. Mark Dow responded, as did Maine Warden Dave Chabot, who is investigating the accident.
