Camera club

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Camera Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Sept. 13, in room C105 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. The club is for everyone interested in photography.

It is an informal group of people who share their knowledge whether the interest is 35mm, digital, larger format, color prints, black and white or transparency films (slides). Field trips are planned periodically.

Club dues are $20 a year payable at the meetings. Sign-up can be made through the Adult Education Office or attend the meeting. For information, contact Kristine at 743-2704.

AARP speakers

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet Monday, Sept. 12, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. The luncheon will be at noon, and reservations are required. Call Henrietta at 743-6722 by noon Friday, Sept. 9, for reservations.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. followed by two guest speakers. Linda Hooker will give a short update on local fraud and Kathy Shulman, AARP’s new volunteer coordinator from the state office, will talk about her duties. People age 50 and over are welcome.

Exhibit reception

BERLIN, N.H. – Traditions of the North Country art exhibit includes Franco-American “naf” pieces by Alwin Dubray, part of a nationwide traveling exhibition of woodcarvings; additional pieces from the private collection of Dorian McGowan of unknown creators; and woodcarvings of Maurice Bugeau and Robert Morin.

There is a heritage quilt exhibit by Barbara Barbieri and spinning traditions and art forms by Hildy Danforth.

A reception will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Admission is by donation and there will be light refreshments. Northern Forest Heritage Park is on the banks of the Androscoggin, Route 16. Call 603-752-7202 for details.

The display will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until Oct. 1. Admission is $5; children under 12, free with adult.

Club trip

OXFORD – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, in the Wal-Mart parking lot (south side near Route 26) and car pool to the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. Visitors are welcome. Bring a picnic lunch. For information, call John Crumpton at 539-2902.

Auction cruise

NAPLES – The Resistance Ministries will hold the second Chinese auction fund-raiser aboard the Songo River Queen II on Saturday, Sept. 17, to help raise $20,000 to buy the land and property needed for a ministry to help kids in crisis.

The ministry has made it possible to receive a free $10 cruise ticket by purchasing 100 tickets for the auction in advance of Sunday, Sept. 11. The 100 auction tickets are priced at $25 and the first 50 people who buy tickets get a free $5 meal on the cruise.

There is only space for 100 people on the cruise and tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cruise is from 4 to 6 p.m. and will also feature a dollar table, along with grab bags and food. FMI: or tickets 743-6982.
