OES visitation
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Rebecca Bibber, grand conductress, will conduct the chapter’s official visitation. All Eastern Star members are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall following the meeting.
A reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Masonic Hall for the appointive grand officers of 2005-2006 serving Norma F. Crabtree, worthy grand matron, and John H. Coombs, worthy grand patron.
Those being honored are Samuel Kelly, grand chaplain; Stephanie Dupal, grand marshal; Susan Glines, grand organist; Ann Kelley, grand Adah; Rebecca St. Pierre, grand Ruth; Jean Myrick, grand Esther; Norma Clark, grand Martha; Rheanne Frost grand Electa; and Charlene Pelletier, grand warden.
A receiving line will be held at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to begin at 1:30. All Eastern Star members, Masons and friends are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the reception.
Nurses to meet
LEWISTON – The Central Maine General Hospital-Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the school, 70 Middle St.
Guest speaker will be Margaret Ross, RN, BS, volunteer community Medicare advocate for SeniorsPlus. She will speak on the upcoming changes in the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan and the Social Security Program to assist in paying for the plan.
All area nurses, as well as friends and associates of members, are invited. A business meeting for the membership will follow at 8 p.m. Call 783-4322 for more information.
Group reconvenes
AUBURN – A support group for Alzheimer’s caregivers will reconvene Friday, Sept. 9, at Clover Health Care, 440 Minot Ave. Meetings are scheduled for the second Friday of the month from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This month’s speaker, Darlene Field, LSW, education specialist for the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer Association, will address the issues of caregiver stress.
Meetings are free open to the public. No reservations are necessary.

School open
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society announces that the Old Schoolhouse will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. The schoolhouse is located at 1229 Maine St. next to the Town Office.
This will be the last Thursday the school will be open this season. Members of the society will be available to answer questions and give tours.
Club luncheon
LEWISTON – Stevens Life Member Club, Telephone Pioneers, will hold a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Ramada Inn. Fellowship will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon followed by a short business meeting. Guest speaker will be Dale Carlson, executive director of the Root Cellar. He will speak on plans to start up a Lewiston site in the near future.
Members and guests are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food or monetary gifts for the needy. Reservations are required by Friday, Sept. 16.
Line dancing
AUBURN – Temple Shalom will once again offer a program for adults who have no previous dance experience or the dance pros. Beginner/Intermediate Level Line Dancing will be held from 10 to 11:15 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13. It is an ongoing class and No partner is needed. The program is open to the public. For more information, call the temple office at 786-4201. Temple Shalom is a nonprofit organization located at 74 Bradman St.
