RUMFORD – Elizabeth M. “Lizzie” Churchill, 79, of the Swain Road, Rumford, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, at the Rumford Hospital.

Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Rumford, the daughter of Vito and Carmella (Clementi) Attisano, she grew up on Holyoke Avenue, being so proud of her Italian heritage. She attended Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1944.

On Sept. 17, 1965, she married her best friend and companion, Ivan M. Churchill, where they would live on Swain Road all their lives.

She was a homemaker most of her life, with her family being her greatest love. She was an incredible wife and mother. She enjoyed her family and just loved having them around. Her children meant everything to her and she was so proud of them. She had so much love to give. She was always concerned about others – even when she was the sickest. She had such a young spirit, always keeping her sense of humor and that big smile. When we were down about her being sick, it was she who would try to make it okay for us. She was truly our caregiver through all of this.

She is survived by three children, Bonnie Cantelo, Kelley Chiasson and husband, Greg, and Ivan Churchill Jr., and wife, Margaret, all of Rumford.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Sr.; brothers, Nofio Tate, Ralph Tate and Joseph Tate; and sisters, Annie Larosa, Josephine Brackett, Lena Churchill and twin sister, Rose Pepin.

Ameremo e la mancheremo il riposo dei nostri giorni. Tenere la Madre di sorridere, finche incontriamo ancora. Italian translation: “We will love and miss you all the rest of our days. Keep smiling, Mother, until we meet again.”
