ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – The attorney general’s office has identified the police officer who shot a Massachusetts man last week but has not determined yet whether his actions were justified.

Sgt. William Neenan, a six-year veteran of the Barrington Police Department, shot Richard Fowler, 29, of Haverhill, Mass., in Rochester last Wednesday.

Authorities said the chase began in Amesbury, Mass., when Fowler sped away from an officer who tried to stop him because the license plates on his car did not match the car. Fowler remains in the intensive care unit at Maine Medical Center.
