In response to the letter from Sandy Knowles published Sept. 5, she states she is looking out for the best interest of the taxpayers. She wants involvement of citizens to keep the town healthy. However, she voted to increase the tax rate when taxpayers already agreed at town meeting with the increases that would set the rate at $19.50 on the thousand. Doesn’t that contradict what she states in her letter?

This is the freshman selectperson who called poor people in town “beggars and bums” and wanted to appoint a new member of the Planning Board on the panel because she was a woman not a man. Both of these issues are discriminatory. Is that healthy?

She also is quite demeaning to other selectmen, questioning their motives for voting the way they do. However, on several instances she has voted in the affirmative just to get things done. Voting yes on the tax increase could get her another $2,000 for the cable committee. And after all, 10 cents on the thousand is only “chump change,” according to Knowles.

Perhaps the other selectmen should think about how Knowles is leading them. She truly is leading them down the wrong path.

I don’t think any of these things lead to a “healthy town,” as she campaigned for in her election.
