LEWISTON – Police on Friday released their findings from an investigation into a motorcycle crash that killed a 52-year-old Lewiston man on Wednesday.

Investigators said Daniel Vaillancourt was driving north on Main Street on Wednesday morning when he slowed to turn into the lot at Empire Auto Sales.

Police said Vaillancourt’s Honda was positioned near the center line as he prepared to make a right turn into the business lot. Witnesses reported turn signals were not activated on the bike.

Driving behind Vaillancourt, 63-year-old Janice Peabody of Greene was traveling at between 20 and 25 mph, police said. Believing Vaillancourt was making a left turn, Peabody attempted to drive around him on the right, police said.

The car and motorcycle collided as Vaillancourt was making his turn, police said. He was thrown from the Honda and suffered a head injury. Investigators said he was not wearing a helmet.

Vaillancourt died Thursday morning at Central Maine Medical Center. Police said the results of their findings will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
