On page A3 of the Sept. 3 Sun Journal, I read a photo caption, “Filling up.”

The caption went on to say that On the Run Mobil took a significant profit loss when it sold gas for $2.59 from $3.19, a difference of 60 cents a gallon.

It did not say that On the Run Mobil sold its gasoline at a zero profit.

This raises questions about how much are the profits merchants are receiving per gallon of gasoline during this crucial time for the American family.

Can anyone say “price gouging,” or is it more like economic rape?

In another article in Saturday morning’s paper, the headline reads: “Rolling Stones should repay debt to delta.”

Isn’t this the opportune time for these merchants to repay their debts to the community?

Haven’t the citizens of neighboring towns and cities been supporting these merchants for years?

Today is the day for every merchant to repay the debt to consumers.

For the time being, waive the profit margin on gasoline and help your neighbors as we are helping our neighbors who have endured tremendous loss due to hurricane Katrina.

Believe you me, customers won’t forget it.
