OXFORD – A surprise party was held July 9 for Edward M. and Constance F. Lyons of Oxford, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. The event was held at Gipper’s Sports Grill in Auburn and was arranged by their six children and their spouses.

They are Commander John F. Lyons, USN, and his wife, Alicia, Donna Lyons Rowell and her husband, David, Debra Lyons, Kevin Lyons and his wife, Susan, and Edward M. Lyons and his wife, Doris. Prior commitments prevented their son, Timothy Lyons, his wife, Ely, and their family from attending. They live outside the U.S. but attended via telephone.

Relatives and friends attended from Arizona, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Connecticut and other communities in Maine.

As they arrived, their grandson, Zachary Lyons, pinned a corsage of roses and carnations on his grandmother, while their granddaughter, Melissa Rowell, pinned a rose boutonniere on her grandfather.

A toast was given to the couple by their eldest son, John. Original wedding attendants present were Shirley Gosselin, maid of honor, George Lyons, best man, and many long-time area friends. New friends from their winter home in Florida also attended. Several grandchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces also came to celebrate with the couple.

A wreath was presented to the couple with individually hand-made charms representing the personalities and achievements of each grandchild at this point in their lives.

The group that attended is partially responsible for a Caribbean cruise the couple will be taking in February.
