FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Taylor Twellman scored three goals and the Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution beat the Columbus Crew 3-1 Saturday night.

Twellman scored twice in the first half – in the 6th and 39th minutes – and then tallied his MLS-best 14th goal of the season in the 63rd minute.

New England (15-5-6), winners of five of six overall, improved to 9-1-3 at home and has a franchise-best 51 points. Columbus (9-13-3) had its three game win streak end.

New England goalkeeper Matt Reis, bidding for his ninth shutout of the season, was denied in the 86th minute when Columbus’ Frank Hejduk scored off of a header on a cross from Simon Elliott.

Twellman scored on a header off Patrick Noonan’s cross in the 6th minute, then made a spectacular solo effort in beating a Columbus defender.
