SALEM – In its first home game under the lights. Mt. Abram fought to a 2-2 deadlock with Winthrop.

Aaron Adams, who scored two goals, provided the Roadrunners (2-0-2) with a goal to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Tim Gingras scored twice in the second half for the Ramblers (0-1-2).

Mike Gingras was spectacular in goal for Winthrop with 19 saves, while Austin Thorndike prevented three shots from entering the cage.

Rangeley 4, Valley 1

RANGELEY – Devon Sargent scored two goals and had two assists to help Rangeley recover for a 4-1 triumph over Valley in boys’ soccer action.

Valley’s Chris Miller scored a goal in the first half that gave Valley a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Lakers stormed back in the second half with four goals. In addition to Sargent, Chris Nels and Steve Vansoeren also scored. Rangeley outshot Valley 45-12.

Georges Valley 3, Mountain Valley 1

RUMFORD – In a show of teamwork, three different players scored to aid Georges Valley in a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Logan Rackliff drew first blood for the Buccaneers (3-0), and Garrett Thornbjornson chipped in with another goal for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Elisha Sprague found the back of the net to put Georges Valley up 3-0 before Byron Glaus responded for the Falcons (0-2-1) to spoil the shutout bid.

Bryan Canwell made 12 saves for Mountain Valley, while Jacob Fall prevented nine for Georges Valley.

MDI 6, Oak Hill 0

BAR HARBOR – Mike Dutra returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown with 16 seconds to play in the game to give Mt. Desert Island a 6-0 victory over Oak Hill on Saturday.

It was MDI’s second victory of the season in similar fashion.

The Raiders (1-1) struggled on offense, turning the ball over five times, including the crushing interception return by Dutra.

Eric Daniels was the leading rusher for Oak Hill with 64 yards on 14 carries.

The Trojans (2-0) have scored 14 points in two weeks, earning last week’s win with only 1:20 remaining in regulation.
