LEWISTON – Alfred Benjamin Gurney Jr., 65, of Auburn died Saturday, Sept. 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.
Born in Portland on Jan. 16, 1940, he was the son of Alfred Sr. and Esther (Giberson) Gurney. He attended Auburn schools and was a 1958 graduate of Edward Little High School. He then went on to attend business college.
He was a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for more than 37 years for the Disabled American Veteran’s (DAV) as a fund-raising administrator.
On April 21, 1962, he married the former Brenda Richard, who survives him of Auburn.
He had been an active member of the Kora Shrine Temple of Lewiston, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He loved his grandsons, especially the bond between his grandson, Matthew Gurney, with whom he spent much time with, and Joshua Gurney.
He is also survived by two sons, Glenn and Daniel Gurney; two sisters, Connie and her husband, John Godin, and Carole and her husband, John Leary; and one brother, Charles and his wife, Susan Gurney.
He was predeceased by his parents.
