LEWISTON – The Bates women’s soccer team scored three goals in the second half on the way to posting a 5-1 victory over St. Joseph’s in collegiate women’s soccer action Tuesday.

Allison Emery opened up the scoring just three minutes into the game with an assist from Jessie Garguilo. Garguilo then scored at 26:23 with Kim Alexander earning the assist.

The Monks (1-2) first open chance came at 36:23 in the second half when Megan Willette ran to goal from a crossover pass by Danielle Lavoie. Mia Lidofsky’s diving save kept the game scoreless. The Bobcats (1-0) struck again at 27:57 in the second half when Alexander scored from Mary Bucci to put the Bobcats up 3-0.

Katie Jordan scored unassisted to give the Monks their lone goal of the game. Bates freshman Jen Marino earned her first collegiate goal at 4:54 left in regulation.

Field Hockey

Endicott 2, UNE 1

BIDDEFORD – Jennifer Rheaume scored a goal in each half to power Endicott to a 2-1 victory over the University of New England in collegiate field hockey action Tuesday.

Rheaume opened the scoring with 14:22 remaining in the first half when she converted a pass from Michelle Berard. The Nor’Easters (1-2) responded less than three minutes later as Nicole Mace set up Megan Sevey who found the back of the cage after a scramble in front.

Rheaume tallied the game-winner just 2:58 into the second half. Lyndsay Woods assisted on the deciding goal.

Erin Curry made five saves for the Gulls (4-2), while Krystal Wysocki registered eight saves for UNE.

New England 6, Southern Maine 0

HENNIKER, N.H. – Amanda Lester recorded a hat trick Tuesday to pace New England College to a 6-0 rout over the University of Southern Maine in non-conference collegiate field hockey action.

Lester tallied the Pilgrims’ (2-3) first three goals in short order as New England jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 15 minutes into the game. Jessica Hanson notched back-to-back goals shortly after, while Lester assisted Hanson on the final goal of the half.

New England held a decisive 26-6 edge in shots, recording 16 attempts in the opening half. The Huskies (1-3) held a slight advantage (8-6) in penalty corners, while keeper Jacqui Parker needed only five saves to notch the shutout.

Plymouth State 3, Bates 1

LEWISTON – Heidi Hand scored with 49:51 remaining on a pass from Jenna Lace to open the scoring for Plymouth State as they defeated Bates 3-1 in college field hockey action Tuesday. Lilly Silva scored a goal and had an assist for Plymouth State. Plymouth goalie Katie Randall recorded five saves for the win.

Rachel Greenwood scored the lone goal for Bates unassisted. Sarah Judice posted eight saves for the Bobcats.
