DIXFIELD – Edward J. Englehart, 84, of Rumford, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, at his son’s home on Beedy Brook Lane, Dixfield. For many years, he had resided on the Wyman Hill Road, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford, Oct. 30, 1920, a son of Eugene and Laura (Bisson) Englehart and had attended Rumford schools.

He was a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW and the Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, F.O.E. in Rumford. He especially loved his family.

He served during World War II with the U.S. Army as a corporal, 1985th Service Command Unit from April 13, 1943, to April 12, 1946, and then later with the U.S. Navy as an SR from Jan. 3, 1949, to May 17, 1951.

He was a machinist and had been employed at J.L. Thompson in Waltham, Mass., and then at Diamond Match Corp. in Dixfield, and later as custodian for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was married in Mexico on Jan. 28, 1945, to Katherine P. Holmquist, who died in Rumford on May 10.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Bellegarde of Rumford; a son, Edward J. Englehart Jr. and wife, Paula, of Dixfield; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Vanaria of Waltham, Mass., Deana Buck and husband, Wayne, of Milton Township, Sandra Englehart and companion, Reggie Butler, of Plymouth, Mass., Kathy Crutchfield and husband, David, of Carthage, Jeffrey McDonald of Dixfield, Leslie McDonald of Buckfield, and Wayne Buck and companion, Jennifer, of Milton Township; six great-grandchildren, Nicole Bellegarde-Kaulback of Dixfield, Zoey and Rayna Butler of Plymouth, Mass., John Vanaria of Waltham, Mass., and Nicholas and Lindsy Crutchfield of Carthage; a great-great-granddaughter, Madisyn Buck of Milton Township; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two grandsons, Edward and Michael Bellegarde; and a sister, Elizabeth LoMenzo.
