NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library will hold a series of computer tutorials from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. throughout the fall beginning Tuesday Sept. 20.
The first Tuesday Tutorial, “Basic Computer Skills,” will focus on familiarization of the computer desktop, using the mouse and keyboard and locating a Web site.
It is intended for those who would like to learn the basics, like turning on the computer and accessing a Web site with a known address.
Each tutorial is independent of the others and participants should feel free to sign up for one or all depending on needs, skill level and interest in each topic. The series will continue on the following schedule:
Oct. 4, “Internet Searching and Web site Evaluation”: For those who have had some experience with using computers and the Internet. Searching by keyword or specific phrases and evaluation of Web sites will be discussed.
Oct. 18, “Introduction to Yahoo! and Yahoo Mail”: Intended for those familiar with the Internet, who want to become better at finding as opposed to searching and who may be interested in establishing an e-mail account.
Nov. 1, “Introduction to EBSCO Data Bases and NoveList”: For users interested in learning how to access the free (to Maine residents) online source for newspaper, journal and magazine articles for use in scholarly or personal research.
NoveList is an easy-to-use online source for searching works of fiction by author and title read-alikes, genre and award winners.
Sign up in advance for any of the free tutorials by stopping by the Reference Desk at Norway Memorial Library or by calling 743-5309.
