AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union 2005 annual scholarship has been awarded to Raechel Biron, a 2005 graduate of Edward Little High School. She is attending Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass., and is the daughter of Gary and Gisele Biron of Auburn.
Biron was active while in school as a member of the drama club, one-act teams, executive board, Student Council, mock trial, French Club, Sirens, Dirigo Girls State and received the Citizenship Award. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and received the Academic Excellence Award.
The Woman’s Literary Union purpose is the cultural and intellectual advancement of women. The scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from a high school in Androscoggin County who plans to enter the field of arts or literature.
The group was organized in 1892. Meetings are held at the Horatio G. Foss Mansion on the second Thursday of each month. There is also the WLU Garden Club, meeting on the third Thursday of the month, and the WLU After Dark Club for younger members of the community, meeting on the second Thursday of the month. New members are welcome at the monthly meeting.
The scholarship committee is composed of Marguerite Powers, Mildred Bickford, Melanie Ness, Barbara Randall and Geneva Kirk.
