LISBON – Sarah Martin converted a pass from Amanda Gallant late in the first half to lift Mountain Valley to a 2-1 victory over Lisbon in a MVC field hockey matchup on Wednesday.
Martin scored both of the Falcons’ (2-2) goals, while Kim Clark made 16 saves to notch the win. Erica Merritt tallied the Greyhounds’ (4-1) lone goal less than one minute into the contest. Rachel Beal turned away five shots in net for Lisbon.
Soccer
Lisbon 3, Winthrop 0
LISBON – Soleil Mathieu headed off a throw-in ball by Ashley Mason to record the game-winning goal on Wednesday afternoon in MVC girls’ soccer action.
Stevanie Roy notched the first goal for the Greyhounds (3-0-1) after converting a pass from Dicki Osmond. Saige Purser also tallied a goal for the win.
Sam Purcell was solid in net, turning away all nine shots she faced to preserve the win. Katie Pushard also made nine saves for Winthrop (1-2-1).
St. Dom’s 2, Traip 2
AUBURN – The Saints scored a pair of second-half goals to force extra time as St. Dom’s and Traip battled to a 2-2 tie in WMC girls’ soccer action on Wednesday.
After Kate Pelletier and Alley Higgins spotted the Rangers a 2-0 lead early in the second half, Laura Robitzek struck back on a direct kick 18:30 in to get the Saints on the board. Heidi DeHann scored the equalizer on a pass from Jessica Chamberlain.
Neither team could capitalize on their chances in the overtime periods.
Goalies Shandra McManus and Katie Lyon combined for eight saves for St. Dom’s (1-2-1). Phoebe Borden stopped 10 shots for Traip (1-3-1).
Fryeburg 4, Poland 3
FRYEBURG – Fe Hart and Macey Hall each scored two goals a piece before the first half was finished to post a 4-3 victory over Poland in girls’ soccer on Wednesday.
Three of Fryeburgs’ four unanswered goals were scored within the first five minutes of the contest. Poland buckled down the second half with strong defense by Amanda Poliquin and Taylor Girouard, halting the Fryeburg scoring effort.
The Knights were led by Kaity Moreau, Courtney Gray, and Dani Boulanger, who came from behind to post three goals.
