AUBURN – Sheila Roy of Lewiston has been named one of two 2005 recipients of the Gerard Berube Scholarship by the Maine Society for Healthcare Human Resources.
Roy is a student in the associate degree nursing program at Central Maine Community College. She has been working in health care since 1995 and is currently a medical assistant at School-Based Health Center at Auburn Middle School, a program of Sisters of Charity Health System. She earned her associate degree in medical assisting in May.
“Sheila has demonstrated her commitment to providing outstanding health care as well as to her own professional development during her 10 years with us,” said Nicole Morin-Scribner, director of employee relations at Sisters of Charity.
“She started as a certified nurses assistant and has pursued both medical assisting and now her nursing degree. We are delighted to be able to offer her this financial assistance and recognition,” said Morin-Scribner.
The society is a state-wide association of human resource professionals in the healthcare industry. The Berube scholarship honors the contributions of Gerard Berube to health care personnel administration in Maine.
Berube was director of human resources at the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center from 1968 until his death in 1977. The scholarship program to provide assistance to two individuals employed in Maine’s healthcare industry who are pursuing further education in the profession.
