This is in response to the Aug. 20 story, “Eleven hours at a time.” I am wondering what the federal government is thinking about by allowing truck drivers to work 14-hour days. Apparently, truckers are allowed to drive 11 hours at a time. Isn’t the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration supposed to oversee trucking in a way to keep the highways safe for all of us? I hardly think the new rule will help.

Why should I feel safe on the highways? In my medical profession, the more hours I work the more tired I become and the less accurate my work will be. I am responsible for human lives, and I refuse to put those lives at risk by working long, tiring hours.

The federal government and the trucking industry are putting us all at risk when we use the highways under those new, insane rules.
