Amtrak’s Downeaster between Boston and Portland will be charging higher fares effective Tuesday.

HOW MUCH: One-way fares will increase by $1, while fares for 10-ride and monthly passes will go up 10 percent. Under the new fares, a one-way trip between Portland and Boston will cost $22.

FIRST TIME: The increases in one-way fares are the first since the Downeaster began operating in December 2001. Pass fares went up 7 percent in March 2004.
