Bath man faces manslaughter charges in crash
BATH (AP) – A 22-year-old man from Bath has been indicted on two counts of manslaughter linked to a truck crash last spring in Bowdoin that killed his brother and a second passenger.
The Sagadahoc County grand jury handed up the indictment this week against Robert Hamilton, who was also charged with two counts of criminal operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to stop for an officer and operating after suspension.
Hamilton survived the crash that claimed the lives of Christopher Hamilton, 26, of Bowdoin, and Joshua Fitzgerald, 24, of Sabattus. He is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 6 in Superior Court.
Man gets 12 years for armed robbery of pharmacies
AUGUSTA (AP) – A man who pleaded guilty to armed robberies of narcotics at pharmacies in Fairfield and Pittsfield last year has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Shawn Kivlin, 29, formerly of Unity, was sentenced Thursday by Superior Court Justice Nancy Mills to 25 years in state prison, with all but 12 years suspended and eight years probation, said Evert Fowle, district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties.
Kivlin had already pleaded guilty to a similar armed robbery in January in Unity, Waldo County. Police detected a pattern in the robberies.
Jury acquits man in murder trial
BELFAST (AP) – A Brooks man charged with fatally shooting his father’s female companion with a shotgun last year was acquitted Friday by a Waldo County Superior Court jury.
After deliberating more than seven hours, jurors acquitted Jerome Reynolds Jr., 54, who was charged with killing Janet Bacon, 60, after she entered Reynolds’ house in search of his father.
Reynolds testified in his own defense Thursday, describing the shooting on Sept. 29, 2004, as a reasonable and necessary defense after Bacon burst into his home.
