TORONTO -Shawn Chacon gave New York’s tired bullpen a much-needed rest by pitching eight innings, and the New York Yankees won their sixth straight with a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Bernie Williams drove in the lone run with an RBI single for the Yankees.
Chacon (5-3) allowed just four hits, while striking out one and walking one. He tied a career high in innings pitched, done five times previously.

MINNEAPOLIS – Johan Santana struck out 13 Saturday to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 5-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox, who have lost seven of their last nine games.

CLEVELAND – Cliff Lee won his eighth straight decision and Coco Crisp hit a two-run homer as Cleveland beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4, pushing the Indians within 3 games of Chicago in the AL Central.

MIAMI – Helped by the Florida Marlins’ inept bullpen and defense, the Philadelphia Phillies’ first 10 batters in the ninth reached base, and they scored 10 times to beat Willis 10-2.
Braves 7, Mets 4
NEW YORK – Adam LaRoche homered and had four hits, and Marcus Giles also connected to lead Tim Hudson and the Atlanta Braves over the New York Mets 7-4.
Cardinals 5, Cubs 1
CHICAGO – Mark Mulder (16-7) allowed eight hits and a run in seven innings and also squeezed in a run to get his first win since Aug. 22 as St. Louis beat the Cubs 5-1.
Giants 2, Dodgers 1
SAN FRANCISCO – Omar Vizquel lined a tiebreaking single to right with two outs in the eighth and Randy Winn hit his career-high 16th home run, leading the San Francisco Giants over the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1.
Astros 7, Brewers 0
HOUSTON – Craig Biggio hit his National League-record 43rd leadoff homer in the Houston Astros’ 7-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
