SABATTUS – Drivers using routes 9/126 or Route 132 through a work zone in Sabattus can expect longer traffic delays for the next two weeks, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

During the next two weeks, T. Buck Construction of Auburn will be grading and paving the mainline and approaches through the intersection, said project manager Michael Thomas.

“We strongly urge drivers using Route 9/126 in Sabattus to use alternate routes if they have that option, especially during the peak travel times of 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 8 p.m.,” he said in a prepared statement.

MDOT has made several efforts to improve traffic flow through the work area, he said, but now the workers need drivers to help, he said.

“We’re getting to the point that we can’t reduce work hours any further and still be sure of getting the project completed before the Oct. 15 cutoff for putting down new pavement because of colder temperatures,” he added. “And we definitely don’t want to leave this as a work zone over the winter.”
