Plant pinwheels

AUBURN – Lake Street School will celebrate International World Peace Day on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

More than 1.200 communities around the world will participate in the Pinwheels for Peace Project. Lake Street School was one of four areas in Maine to register for the project.

The students and staff of Lake Street School, with the support of the PTO, will plant Pinwheels for Peace at 10:45 a.m. around the outdoor flagpole.

The pinwheels, a symbol of childhood, were decorated by the children and teachers and have expressed their personal thoughts of peace, tolerance and harmony.

The students will place their pinwheels in the ground around the flagpole by grade and the school community will sing songs related to living in community. Some teachers will use the opportunity to discuss the Constitution in their classroom.
