HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) – A fall from a dormority balcony that killed a 20-year-old Quinnipiac University student was an accident, the chief medical examiner’s office ruled Monday.

Ricardo Petrillo, a Westport native, died from head and chest injuries in the fall from the third-floor balcony early Sunday morning, the medical examiner’s office said.

Authorities said tests showed Petrillo was intoxicated, according to television news reports.

He was treated at the scene and brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he later died, police said.

University officials said the sophomore political science major lived in the dorm with the balcony from which he fell.

In a statement, the university said it has worked hard to educate students “about the importance of making safe and healthy decisions about alcohol.”

The university requires freshmen to complete an online alcohol education program before moving onto campus and offers other alcohol education programs, the school said.
