JAY – International Paper will dismantle its No. 1 paper machine, which was shut down indefinitely in April.

IP has decided that this machine, which made uncoated paper, won’t make paper again, IP spokesman Bill Cohen said Monday. Some spare items may be used on the No. 2 machine.

The mill’s future rests in coated paper, Cohen said.

IP announced in July that it would either sell or spin-off its paper mills in Jay and Bucksport, along with some other mills in the United States and Brazil that specialize in coated paper used for magazines and catalogs. The company plans to focus on its uncoated paper business.

IP’s global headquarters will move from Connecticut to Tennessee.

Cohen also confirmed Monday that former IP spokeswoman Fiona McCaul has left IP and the Androscoggin Mill, to take a job at a steel company in Tampa, Fla.
