RANGELEY – Police are investigating a burglary at a Main Street restaurant where about $500, a digital camera and a radio were taken, police said Monday.

Rangeley Police Chief Phil Weymouth said the owner of a Thai food restaurant left the business on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and returned at 8 p.m.

The building had been entered through an unlocked garage door, and then a screen door was kicked in to gain entry into the kitchen, Weymouth said.

The burglars went through the owner’s desk and took two $100 bills out of a folder and took a small black and white purse that contained $50 in quarters, he said. They also took an Olympus digital camera and a Sony hand-held silver radio.

They also took the owner’s first earnings from the restaurant of between $200 and $300 that he had put in a frame and hung behind the counter.

The money was in $100 bills, $20s, $10s and $5s, Weymouth said.
