This is in response to the Sept. 11 letter from Heidi Weber and others. The Blue Angels and/or the Air Force Thunderbirds may be viewed as “just” a recruiting tool by some. But they are exhibition teams like no others. The French air show in Paris would love to have them again, I’m sure.

Just because there is an unjust military action taking place doesn’t mean the rest of America should be denied seeing what their tax dollars can do, both in pilot training and equipment. That it might be the Blue Angels’ last chance to fly at Brunswick should be considered a fitting end – and was by a lot of folk. They have not been to Brunswick Naval Air Station often lately. They used to come every year, even during Vietnam. They paid their tribute, in their way. And, I wish I could have been there to thank them, again.

As far as jet fuel, heating oil or gasoline goes, I’d rather the Blue Angels have it than Air Force One. That thing is full of hot air and can fly like a blimp.
