NEW GLOUCESTER – Sunday’s benefit concert Acadians for Cajuns raised $4,000 that will be forwarded to the American Red Cross, said Caramel Masterson, a spokesperson for Fiddlehead Center for the Arts, on Monday.
Immediately after the concert, the estimate was that approximately $3,000 had been raised.
The concert was the inspiration of Maine musician Tom Rowe who brought together 11 bands from Maine to give their time and talent to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.
More than 400 people attended the concert held outdoors at Thompson’s Orchard on top of Gloucester Hill Road, Masterson said.
Rowe’s efforts also brought an outpouring of help to set up the event.
L/A Arts based, Fiddlehead Center for the Arts, the Dave Rowe Trio and the American Red Cross worked together on the planning.
