Scout evening

PORTLAND – The Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council will host an evening with Lyn Mikel Brown, Ed.D., from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Hannaford Lecture Hall, Abromson Community Education Center at USM’s Portland Campus.

Brown is an author, professor at Colby College and expert in understanding the tough reality of being a girl in today’s world.

The program will provide an opportunity for educators, social workers, parents of girls and others in the community to hear the latest thoughts on issues that affect girls.

Rose program

DAMARISCOTTA – The Mid-Maine Rose Society will meet at noon Sunday, Oct. 2, for a brown bag lunch at Hodgdon Green, Damariscotta Village.

A business meeting will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Diana Allen will give a presentation on “Rose Trivia.” All are invited.

Time and tide

AUGUSTA – The Time and Tide Resource Conservation and Development Area Council will convene at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, on the third-floor conference room, 9 Green St.

Time and Tide is a nonprofit organization that provides guidance and leadership for projects that foster improvement, development and conservation of natural resources while promoting economic growth opportunities in local communities. The public is invited to attend the meeting or call 622-7847, ext. 4, for information.

Scout registration

SOUTH PORTLAND – Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council is accepting registration for girls ages 5 to 17. The local Girl Scout council provides programs more than 10,000 girls in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset and York counties. More than 3,000 adult volunteers ensure that Girl Scout programs continue to be available for every girl who would like to be a Girl Scout.

At each level of Girl Scouts the troop activities are determined by troop leaders and the girls themselves.
