AUBURN – A swashbuckling but friendly pirate, food, games, gifts and prizes for kids and their parents will highlight the free “Peter Pan & Pirate Party” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26.

Kids of preschool age and up and their parents are invited to the party, which will take place at the Auburn Housing Authority, 20 Great Falls Plaza in Auburn. Registration is recommended and may be made by calling the library at 782-3191, extension 3.

The Friends of the Auburn Public Library organized the party to benefit library services to children and teens.

For parents, there will be chances to win one of 20 treasure chests filled with at least $50 worth of goods donated by local individuals, groups and businesses. Themes for the chests are “Pampered Pooch,” “For the Chef,” scrap-booking, baby shower, NASCAR, “Lots of Lego,” fishing gear, camping gear, home spa, fall gardening, jewelry-making, sewing basket, “Puzzles for the Puzzle Fanatic” and artists’ supplies.

The chests are on display now at the library, temporarily located in Auburn Mall.

“Mean Mike the Pirate” is, in his other life, a student at St. Dominic’s Regional High School in Auburn. Friends of the Library include President Mary Sylvester, library Director Rosemary Waltos, and members Connie Bedette, Diane Gatchell, Betsy Hutchins, Carol Seward, Susan Spellman, Suzanne Trefsger and Sarah Andersen.

Treasure chest sponsors include Androscoggin Savings Bank, Dr. Ray Bedette, the Book Burrow and Caf, Dag’s Bait Shop, Dore’s Caf, Gleason Radio Group/WCNN, Betsy Hutchins, Katie Gatchell Lupher, Marzilli’s Embroidery Plus, Photo Finish, “Pirate Pete,” QuiltEssentials, Rysen Home Garden and Antiques, Sam’s Italian Foods, Specialty Gifts, Thayer Corp., and the Waltos-Petit family.
