LEWISTON – Bertrand L. Dostie, 87, of Mapleview at Marshwood Center for Health Care & Rehabilitation in Lewiston, died Thursday, Sept. 22, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 16, 1917, the son of Albert and Blanche LaCroix Dostie. He was educated in the Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. He was an avid hockey player, having played for the old St. Dom’s Association. He was also captain of the first Lewiston High School swimming team, a sport in which he excelled.

On April 3, 1943, he married Doris B. Houle in Burbank, Calif.; she passed away on Dec. 8, 1998.

He served in the Army’s famed 10th Mountain Division, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He received the Bronze Medal and several ribbons of distinctive honor for serving in Europe during World War II.

He and his wife, Doris, spent their summers at Sebago Lake with their family and many friends, where they enjoyed camping and fishing.

After retiring from Hilcrest Poultry Co., he worked for Pathways Inc., and Lewiston Middle School.

He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish.

Survivors include one son, Paul and his wife, Maxine, of St. Augustine, Fla.; two daughters, Claire and her husband, Peter Lavallee, of Lewiston, and Louise and her husband, Donald Dockendorf, of Van Nuys, Calif.; five grandchildren, Michael Dostie, Derek and his wife, Renetta Jo Dostie, Ronald and his wife, Keri Dostie, Christina and her husband, Bart Gillespie, and Steven and his wife, Melissa Lavallee; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Anita Doyon.

He was predeceased by a sister, Noella Regina.
