Yoga classes

AVON – After a four-week break, yoga classes have resumed at the Opportunity Center of Northern Franklin County on Avon Valley Road. Classes meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays.

The beginner level classes focus on increasing flexibility, balance and strength. All poses can be modified to fit individual needs. People with previous yoga experience are welcome and encouraged to challenge themselves in poses. Call Ginni Robie with questions and to register at 639-2713.

Career classes

WILTON – The following sessions will be held at the Wilton CareerCenter, 865 Route 2. The classes are offered free to the public. Call 645-5800 or toll free 1-800-982-4311 to register.

Friday, Oct. 7: “Applications/Work History/References” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; “Interviewing Skills” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 13: “Test of Adult Basic Education” from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 21: “General Aptitude Test Battery” from 9 a.m. to noon.

Wednesday, Oct. 26: “Career Decision-Making” from 9 to 10 a.m.; “Career Ability Placement” survey from 10:30 to noon.

Friday, Oct. 28: “Essentials of College Planning and Study Skills” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 1-800-281-3703 to register for that session.

Fair plans

FARMINGTON – Plans for the annual Christmas fair will be made when the Franklin County Arts and Crafts Association meets Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the University of Maine at Farmington North Dining Hall.

The business session will begin at 7 p.m. Officers will be available at 6:30 to accept membership dues and registrations for the fair, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at the UMF Olsen Student Center.

Chamber news

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce has announced that United Kingfield Bank will host a Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. There will be refreshments and prizes. The bank is located in the Hannaford Plaza, Routes 2 and 4.

The chamber will hold the annual dinner meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Granary with a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. The speaker will be Sen. Peter Mills and the topic of his message will be “12 Steps Towards an Accountable Government.” The cost is $25/person and all dinner reservations must be paid in advance. Taekwondo class

AVON – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a taekwondo class beginning Oct. 11, to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks at the Opportunity Center of North Franklin County, Avon Valley Road. Chief instructor is Rob Goding of Goding’s Taekwondo in Farmington.

The class will cover such topics as the origin of taekwondo and health benefits, and will include training in self-defense and cardio self-endurance, kicking drills, blocking drills and basic sparring techniques.
