We have another attack on the structure of our Republic.

If the phrase “Under God” is so offensive, what must we do to please this minority? Should we tear down all the public buildings, the statuary, all the things that celebrate this country, our Constitution and Bill of Rights? Would the opponent of the Pledge refuse to accept any coinage, like “In God We Trust?”

How lucky he is to be in a country that allows him the liberty of challenging the majority – safely. I wonder how he’d make out in many of the Middle East countries?

These statements of fealty have been a part of our history since Colonial times. We will be sundering the base of our country’s greatness to satisfy the wishes of a person, who probably should be pitied.

In spite of this gentleman’s perorations, we are not a theocracy. Nor an autocracy, nor an oligarchy or dictatorship.

Several ethnic groups have used the same verbiage. It has been common practice since this country was born. In a word, a precedent has been long-established, which should not be tampered with.

In closing, I would suggest that this gentleman hunt up a private school if he feels that his children are being corrupted. There are still children and teachers who are voicing the “Pledge of Allegiance,” with the addendum “Under God.”

Why should a small group of people be allowed to dictate what another group may or may not do?
