It’s amazing how President Bush continues his ineptness to be a leader. We have seen how his choice of a political appointee, Michael Brown, has caused the loss of life by being ill prepared to respond to a disaster. Bush should have chosen someone who was qualified to be in that position.
Now he has pledged to rebuild New Orleans “no matter what the cost.” In order to pay for the rebuilding, he has indicated we should cut the cost of government and should not increase taxes. For a man with an MBA, he is not making sense.
He has already made cuts to social programs that are targeted to the poor. There will now be more poor people through no fault of their own. He has changed bankruptcy laws that will prevent many of the affected people from starting their lives over – again through no fault of their own.
Spending cuts he will make most likely will target our most needy. Neither he nor Congress will cut congressional pork projects.
What should be cut are the tax breaks he gave to the wealthiest one percent of people. He should stop thinking about the repeal of the estate tax when modifying it would provide adequate benefit.
Under his leadership, we will leave future generations a legacy of enormous debt.
I believe Bush needs a lesson on what real leadership is.
