AUBURN – Robert A. Parent, 86, of 65 Warren Ave., Lewiston, died Friday evening, Sept. 23, at Clover Manor.

He was born in Lewiston, May 12, 1919, the son of Albert and Florence Richardson Parent. He was educated in local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1937, then attended Hebron Academy for one year. He continued his education at Bates College, from where he graduated in 1942.

He was married in 1943 to Anna Bendtsen.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was owner of R.A. Parent Insurance Agency until his retirement.

In his early years, he enjoyed playing drums and was a drummer in local bands. He umpired softball at Farwell School for more than 40 years, and tutored junior high school students. He volunteered for the Cub Scouts and enjoyed fly fishing, the Red Sox and “Big Band” music.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish.

He is survived by his wife of Auburn; a daughter, Muffett Dulac and her husband, Wilfrid, of Auburn; two sons, Robert A. Parent Jr. and his wife, Mabel Gong, of Colorado, and William F. Parent and his wife, Susan, of Connecticut; and seven grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Lawrence.
