Food sale, rummage

JAY – A food and rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the North Jay Grange Hall to benefit the grange.

Video series

STRONG – Living Waters Assembly of God will host a video teaching series by Dr. Kevin Leman, “Running the Rapids,” on guiding teenagers through the turbulent waters of adolescence. The six-week series will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Living Waters and will continue through Nov. 6.

The series is for everyone who has teenagers, parents who will have teenagers, grandparents of teenagers and anyone who works with or knows teenagers. It is open to the public. For more information, call 684-3743.

Gospel concert

LIVERMORE – The LaClaires will present a bluegrass and country gospel concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the North Livermore Baptist Church, corner of Route 4 and the Crash Road. A freewill offering will be taken and refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Book sale

LIVERMORE FALLS – Treat Memorial Library will have a book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the auditorium downstairs in the library. All donations will be used to buy new books for the library. There will be children’s books, fiction and nonfiction, cookbooks, videos and paperbacks on sale.

Supper take-out

NEW SHARON – The New Sharon Congregational United Church of Christ will hold a family baked bean takeout meal with pick-up between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Oct. 1, at the church on Cape Cod Hill Road. The meal includes a quart of baked beans, a pint of coleslaw, yeast rolls or brown bread and a family-size homemade pie for $12.

Tutors needed

WILTON – Reading tutors are needed to help adults who have trouble with their reading skills. Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties is a nonprofit, United Way funded organization that trains tutors to help those who need to improve their reading.

Volunteers must take a tutor training workshop, then they will be matched with a student in their area.

The next workshop will be given in October at the Career Center. An orientation meeting will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, followed by two Saturday sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 and 22. There is a $15 charge for materials, but scholarships are available. For more information, call 778-3460 or 1-800-322-5455.

FARMINGTON – Community outreach funding has enabled Franklin Memorial Hospital to expand its medical library hours to Saturdays to offer special workshops on finding health-related information.

As a celebratory kick-off, a public open house will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The librarians will be available to show visitors the resources.

The public is welcome to check out the library’s collection of health and medical resources, including books, journals, pamphlets and videotapes.

Public computer terminals with Internet access and health-related electronic resources are also offered, as well as reference assistance.

A workshop, “Finding Information about Asthma,” will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend the workshop should register with a librarian by phoning 779-2554 or e-mailing [email protected].

The library is located in the Ben Franklin Center of the hospital, next to the main reception desk. For more information, contact the library at 779-2554.

Info session

JAY – Parents of Jay High School seniors are invited to attend an information session regarding the college search and application process. The presentation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the high school library.

Topics will include the search and application process, available resources for parents and students, college visitation information and suggestions. In addition, an introduction and review of the high school guidance office resources and procedures will be offered. Contact the high school guidance office at 897-4336 with any questions.

Program intro

FARMINGTON – A free introduction to the enneagram will be offered by Dr. Mick Bransky, marriage and family counselor, and Betsy Bransky, certified health education specialist, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Amethyst Health Services, 161 Front St.

The enneagram is a tool for developing self-awareness identifying a path for moving forward, improving communication, growing relationships and effecting change in life. The public is welcome.
