The authors of some recent letters to the Sun Journal have opined that there would be more troops available in the Katrina-devastated areas if not for the Iraq war. Assuming this statement to be true, let’s turn back the clock. Gleaned from past newspaper articles, we learn that President Clinton was responsible for reducing the size of the military by half a million people.

Were it not for that cutback, would there be enough troops to spare for use in Katrina ravaged areas?
