SALISBURY, Conn. (AP) – A Pennsylvania physician died after his car crashed in an amateur race at Lime Rock Park Saturday.
The car driven by Adam Zimmerman, 36, of Allentown, Pa., crashed into another car that had stopped after hitting a side wall during an Eastern Motor Racing Association race, track officials said.
Zimmerman, a veteran amateur driver, was pronounced dead at Sharon Hospital, track officials said. Head injuries were the cause of death, the chief medical examiner’s office said Sunday.
The unidentified driver of the other car was treated at the scene.
State police are investigating.
The most recent fatality resulting from a crash at Lime Rock was in 1998. A racer died in 2003, but the medical examiner’s office ruled that he died of a heart condition.
