RUMFORD – Geraldine Hall Arnold, 82, of Dixfield, died Saturday evening, Sept. 24, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Rumford, the daughter of William and Ella (Whittemore) Hall. She was a graduate of Dixfield High School.

On July 17, 1943, she married Joseph A. Arnold. Together, they raised three sons and enjoyed many years of retirement traveling and camping across the country and in the Arctic. Mr. Arnold predeceased her on April 6, 2004.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher in Dixfield and Carthage schools.

She was a member of the Mother’s Club, the Dixfield Historical Society, AARP and the Neighborly Senior Citizens, the American Campers’ Association, Good Sam and the Audubon Society. She was the fourth longest-time member of the Dixfield Congregational Church.

Her hobbies included traveling and camping, gardening, sewing and knitting. Her greatest pride were her three sons and their families.

Survivors include Joseph A. Arnold IV and his wife, Linda, of Dover, N.H.; William H. Arnold and his wife, Bunny, of Mexico, and Peter L. Arnold and his wife, Shirley, of Brownsburg, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Peter and his wife, Shelby, Elija, Amelia, Meghann, Bryn, Jordan, Callie and Ross.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Roy, and two sisters, Mary and Marion.
