LEWISTON – Alice Lillian Smart Vaughn, 91, died Sept. 24, at Marshwood Health Care Center following a long illness.

She was born in Dedham on July 4, 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Blanche Smart.

She was married to the late Elmore M. Vaughn Sr. for 67 years, and lived in the Dixfield area much of that time.

She was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church, the Dixfield Senior Citizens and the Order of Eastern Star.

She liked to read, knit, travel and garden; she especially liked her white, pink and purple petunias. She was a wonderful cook and loved to cook for her family.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm M. Vaughn Jr. “Mac” and Dorothy of Peru; three grandchildren, Debra Mcleod and her husband, Danny, of Winthrop, and Dwayne and Mark Vaughn, and their wives, Jeanine and Barbara, of Peru; five great-grandchildren; Brian McLeod of Winthrop, Danielle Read and her husband, Adam, of Augusta, Tanya Vaughn of Rumford, and Derrick and Devon Vaughn of Peru; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hannah and A.J. Read, and Logan Von Cote.

She was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Smart Newton.
