PARIS – Sometimes it is hard not to be envious.
Ten people won 1,000 gallons of heating oil in a raffle C.N. Brown Co. held at the Cumberland Fair on Saturday.
“It feels pretty good,” a calm Erland Farrington said Monday by telephone. Farrington, a Jay resident, won 1,000 gallons but expects to use only between 700 and 900 gallons this winter. He said he will give the rest away to friends or family.
The prize will save customers between $2,000 and $2,500, according to Mark Cyr, a retail sales manager with C.N Brown’s heating oil division, Red Shield Heating Oil.
Last year, C.N Brown gave away 10,000 gallons of oil to one contestant, but this year decided to “share the wealth,” Cyr said.
Mary Lapointe of Chelsea, Maine, another winner, said she will save the money and pay other bills. “I just bought a hot tub,” she said. “So the light bill will go up.”
The Paris-based company sells heating oil and owns the Big Apple gas/convenience store chain.
